Shortly after the Pompeii dig, which unearthed a simplified archetectural design the French frame took on a more subtle form. May of the older ornate frames were discarded and replaced with the Louis XVI frame. This provided a boon to the emerging French impressionist painter who found Louis XIII through Louis XV frames very desirable for their works.
